Quipsafe founder and president Fred Phillips has been involved with the food and restaurant industry for over thirty years. He is the owner of Restquip inc., a food service equipment provider specializing in the sale of new and restored food service equipment at deep discounts.
Quipsafe’s mission is to offer its customers simple and innovative equipment that provides sustainability, waste reduction, cost reduction and safety enhancements. The impetus to start Quipsafe came from Fred’s involvement as a food service consultant observing the alarmingly disproportionate amount of waste generated by the restaurant industry and the cost factor involved in disposing the waste.
In a National Restaurant Association Food Waste study, “The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates food waste in the United States to be about 30 to 40 percent of the food supply. An estimated 133 billion pounds of food from stores, restaurants and homes was wasted in 2010, according to the USDA. Most food that’s thrown away ends up in landfills, where it can have negative environmental impacts. Wasted food also can hurt a restaurant’s bottom line.”
According to recycleacrossamerica.org, more than 28 billion glass bottles end up in landfills each year. A Container Recycling Institute study shows that 40% of all glass bottles put in recycling bins end up in the landfill and unlike plastic, glass that ends up in a landfill do not decompose.
Quipsafe’s equipment lineup is ideally positioned to cut back waste and the cost involved in its disposal. Quipsafe is a proud and dedicated partner to the wine, food, hospitality and restaurant industries as well as communities and organizations, that give a high priority to recycling and maintaining a sustainable lifestyle.
